The Aftermath Comic A desperately sad album full of melancholic beauty, longing, and suffering. One of the few bands that puts a knot in my stomach. They should be (hopefully will be) superstars in the depressive black metal genre. Favorite track: Life is Too Long.

Paintingmantis Beautiful album. Dark & sophisticated, perfect from start to finish.

rvss.eel There is so much darkness available in music now that it rarely hits deep. This music does. High praise.

This is my #2 album of 2019. Favorite track: Anneliese.

Old Star Depressive Black Metal is a genre filled with agonized screams or whimpers even, and with that being said, I have never much cared for it. To me, Black Metal is a genre of rage and defiance, so the whole genre of DBM has been missing a vital component of its agony—rage and aggression. Griefloss is what DBM should have sounded like since the beginning. They ARE that genre more than any other. With their original release Ruiner, Griefloss touched my soul with its bitter agony and aggression. Tracks suck as III and Charon transcended into something truly special that has yet to be replicated. I still listen to that album often. With their sophomore release, Griefloss ups their musical complexity and shines like never before. Tracks such as Blood Flashing, Anneliese, and For Decades shred like any black metal album should, yet they also writhe in depressive agony. This hauntingly beautiful mix of sadness and anger is what metal is supposed to be about. Please, give Griefloss the reputation they deserve and bring the band into the high ranks. I know their opus is coming and it will be an unforgettable album that will hopefully influence all black metal in the coming decade.
Favorite track: Anneliese.

DonnieDarko Post-Black Metal with a very different touch, the clean vocal parts are absolutely gorgeous, support this band, they deserve it!
Lars Gotrich

Lars Gotrich Supreme blackened sad bastard metal a la 40 Watt Sun, Godflesh, Alcest. I’m partial to the tracks with clean vocals, but demonstrates a keen understanding of what blackgaze can accomplish and what it can explore. Favorite track: Anneliese.
